Timeline, Cost and Requirements

  • Be at least 17 years old at the time of application

  • Be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English

  • Obtain a medical certificate from an FAA-authorized physician

  • Complete and log the required ground training

  • Pass the FAA written knowledge test (multiple-choice format)

  • Accumulate a minimum of 40 hours of flight instruction and solo time under Part 61

  • Successfully pass the FAA checkride, which includes both an oral exam and a practical flight test with a designated examiner
